Why choose an elliptical trainer.

An Elliptical trainer compares well against the traditional treadmill. When you use one and compare it to a treadmill you will notice that there is very little impact on you legs. This is perfect if you have problems with your ankle or knees. If you are overweight then an elliptical is better as you won’t damage yourself using one. Although the treadmill provides a lower impact workout than running on the road, as the belt does offer some cushioning.

Most elliptical trainers can be used forward and backwards. This is perfect for exercising different sets of muscles, giving a much better workout. If your legs get tired going forward you can always pedal backwards. It’s fun too switching between forward and backwards.

The elliptical trainer is a dual action motion that uses your upper body as well as the lower body, giving a much better all round workout. There is evidence that using an elliptical trainer give an easier workout. As the perceived effort is lower than it actually is, you get a good workout and it feels easier. One thing you can do whilst exercising is lean forwards, this puts more load on you upper body, so you can tone and build strength in your arms and shoulders. Leaning back has the opposite effect, you will strengthen you arms and back as you pull yourself forward.

If you choose a magnetic trainer then they are quiet, you will be able to use them in front of the TV without you TV being drowned out by the elliptical trainer. Personally I think they are more fun to use than a treadmill.
